Guys(and gals), I can’t stop looking at Enkei RPF1s for the BRZ in 17x9 +35. The tires are reasonably priced for that size and the wheels look so good with that offset. I fear it may happen. Convince me out of this please?
Also, I may be turning into Zoidberg’s BRZ-posting cousin with all these posts...

I love the fitment of the white BRZ in the first picture. Do it, the rpfs look great

Nah, you’re good, carry on. I don’t really like the high offset/small width version of the RPF1, but the flat-faced wide ones are good looking. I’d probably go for 18s if it were my car (RPF1s tend to look smaller due to the spokes not extending to the edge), but you’re right that tires are a lot more reasonable for 17s.

I was considering going ultra light weight for the Si and wasn’t afraid of the price. The only thing that stopped me was the fact it didn’t look good on the car unless it was lowered...and i didn’t want to start the mod bug.
Long story short, DO IT

I fought with the RPF1 decision as well, but they’re so common. I ended up going with 17x9 +40 6ULs instead.

Generally speaking, I don’t care for tweaked cars, I like stock. But I have to say, there are some people in SoCal who are doing some nice things to BRZs that actually work on a visual level.
I agree, those wheels are good in that application.

I will not be talking you out of it. They’re great looking wheels!
I picked up two brand new 17x8 +42 from a local guy for cheap, still need to get two more of them to have a full set for my track wheels/tires.
Any particular reason for the 17x9 +35 size other than aesthetics? Seems like the mentality is generally that 17x8 w/ 225 tires is ideal for track day use and 17x9 w/ 245 tires are best for autox (assuming you’re running in STX), but plenty of guys also run 17x9 on track.
I opted for 17x8 because tires are cheaper and most people seem to find the 225s to be more responsive on track. If I was really trying to be competitive in autox I’d pick up another set of RPF1s in 17x9 with 245/40 RE71Rs.
Either way you go, buy used. There are tons of sets out there in great shape for a fair bit less than brand new. That being said, going brand new still won’t break the bank if that’s what you want.
Have you looked at the 949Racing 6UL wheels? They’re pretty similar, also light, also look good, and a bit less common (for the time being at least).
(Ugh, I hate that I shared a picture of @

I’ve been looking at these, but in 16x7+35. I’m toying with the idea of a set of RFP1 in black with 225/55R16s to make a max-sidewall look.
Not my car, but a good pic of 16s

Me too! That was the car that made me look up bronze RPF1s. The fitment and color looks so damn good. I need it so bad. I’ll probably have to wait until the Prius tires wear out. Or I get sick of the road noise from them enough...

I’m struggling between gold and bronze. I feel gold would look really good but they might be too flashy. Bronze would look really good while staying subtle but I think I might need to see them in real life before committing to them.

You guys are all horrible influences haha.
Yep, mostly for aesthetic since I prefer flat faced/concave wheels over convex. I also saw the sizing for auto-x and track you mentioned in the wheel directory. My thing is I just can’t get past the aesthetic (silly, I know).
Interesting. I’ll have to see what they go for used locally and if I can find a bronze set since I’m feeling the bronze color with white.
Those 6ULs look good. I wonder if I am find a size where they’re concave though. What wheels are you running on your FR-S right now in the meantime?

Those are beautiful. What tires are you running? I plan to trash the stock prius tires as soon as I can and get some proper (hopefully quieter and more comfortable too) tires afterwards. I’ve heard good things about Dunlop Direzzas and Hankook RS-3s but I’m curious about your input since you seem very well versed in tracking/auto-x-ing.

Exactly. And to be fair, I don’t see RPF1s too often on the street. I feel we all are used to forums where the population with RPF1s is slightly exaggerated due to the sites we visit on the internet.

Thanks!
I’m running 225/45 ZII Star Specs. I’ll be switching to a less grippy tire for daily driving, and swapping the ZII* to the RPF1s once I buy the other two. I had a lengthy conversation about suspension and tires with Moto Miwa, a renowned Toyota guy/racer, and he said for daily I should definitely get something with less grip. It’s fine for track, but a bit too much for my fairly soft sprung coilovers.
As for you, it depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re going to do the one wheel fits all approach, like I’m currently doing, I’d get something good with around a 300TW rating. From what Moto said, it’ll make for a more balanced car that feels better, even if it’s not technically as fast.
If you’re going to have a dedicated set of track or autox wheels, that’ll also depend on the use. For doing just track or both track and autox, I’d got with the ZII Star Specs. I love mine. They have lots of grip, are incredibly responsive, and will last a decently long time for a 200TW tire. If you’re going to have a set for just autox, and want to really compete for fastest times, RE71-Rs are the only answer. I know guys who run them at the track too and do just fine with them, but I’ve also heard people say they’re a “one lap wonder” tire at track days. Either way, they wear significantly faster than the ZII* or RS-3.
Have you done any autox or HPDE events yet?

Very interesting points. I’ll keep the 300TW in mind since like you said, I don’t need super sticky tires for dailying. Definitely looking for a one wheel fits all for now to save money and space. I’ll have to investigate more on tires with your tips in mind.
Nope, none yet. I’m still in the break-in period and this is my first manual/fun car. Just 300 more miles and I can finally start revving the car out fully and learn to heel-toe.

Right on. I definitely recommend doing your first few autox and/or track day events on the stock tires. You’ll learn the limits of the car much better, and you’d be surprised with how the stock tires can actually perform. They will end up being the first limit you’ll hit in the car though.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying it so much! Hope to see some posts about you and your BRZ soon. :)
